Not "either–or", but "and".
The world has accelerated. Integral Theory offers a comprehensive, clear map for finding our way – in ourselves, in our relationships and in our organisations.
We are no longer confined to the community, culture and tradition we were born into. In the past we were told who we are, what our task is and what role we play. Today there are so many options that choosing itself has become hard: it takes time and energy to find the outlook, values and path that are right for us. Who am I? Why am I here? Where do I belong?
Integral Theory – in a narrower sense, integral psychology – synthesises Western psychotherapeutic and psychological knowledge with the teachings on consciousness of the spiritual wisdom traditions. The result is a full-spectrum view of the human being that can be applied to every area of life: economics, medicine, business, law, ecology, art.
It unites East and West, spirituality and science, body and mind. Where we used to speak of "either–or", the word "and" now takes its place.
Born in 1949 in Oklahoma City, he studied medicine, chemistry and physics but soon became disillusioned with the narrow materialism of science and set out on his own intellectual path. He read voraciously and began comparing Eastern and Western scientific, philosophical and psychological traditions. He has meditated regularly since his late teens.
His first book, The Spectrum of Consciousness, was published in 1977 and laid the foundations of a new worldview. He became a leading figure of transpersonal psychology and then went further, creating integral psychology. In 1998 he founded the Integral Institute. Many consider him one of the greatest thinkers of our time.
Spiral Dynamics – a map of invisible value systems
Built on Clare W. Graves's research and developed by Don Beck and Chris Cowan, the model reveals the value systems that drive individuals and teams. I learned it directly from its co-creator at Dr Don Beck's European training. A few levels we often meet in organisations:
Stability, rules, order and hierarchy. Security comes from structure.
Individual success, competition, efficiency and results. What works is good.
Community, empathy, consensus and ecological sensitivity. Every voice matters.
Systemic thinking and integration. Able to understand and connect all previous levels.
Leaders who understand this language stop fighting resistance: they align communication, incentives and tasks with people's value systems. This prevents value conflicts, supports change management and retains talent.
Integral leadership development
Integral Leadership Development – Shaping Tomorrow's Leaders with a New Approach
As lead trainer at H2Pro Academy, launched by ITL Group in autumn 2024, I teach that leadership is not a single style but a relational process that depends on the level of consciousness of the leader and their team. Everyone lives in their own "microcosm" of motivations, values, beliefs and communication styles.
